Diabetes Sucks!!!

I don't like it! I don't want it! But I've got it! And once you have it, you always have it. But I can do something about it and that is what this blog is about. My journey to better health and wellness. Yes, for the rest of my life!!!

Finally, it happened...

WOW!!! I didn't walk all week. Well, after the 7 mile walk and ensuing hamstring pain on Sunday, I walked all day at WDW Magic Kingdom on Monday. We got there at 11:15 am and left the park for the night at 12:15 am! That was a lot of walking. Plus, we went to the Contemporary for dinner and had to walk to the entrance, get on the monorail and return the same way. Not complaining. I like walking and know that I can just about overtake anyone that tries to walk faster than me (a perk of powerewalking, I guess!)
.
Then, I had my monthly massage on Tuesday and my hamstrings were still bothering me. And that night I went to evening Bunko where I tried out an elyptical machine for 5 minutes and more pain for two days following. So, for a couple of days, I took it easy. I'm good for it!!!
.
Today, I walked without much pain. Just a little bit in the shins but it eased off after 20 minutes and I was able to complete it in my usual window of time.
.
Tomorrow, I will be doing an all day chair massage for the Scrapbooking event nearby. I have 25 slots and I heard that it hasn't filled up so, I may get home earlier. If so, I will walk again for three walking days this week.

Total of 7 miles and 1:47:00. It was a little bit slow going today as I had cramps in my hamstrings and glutes. I don't know if it is from yesterday or just doing an extra 2 miles. The weather has beens strange here. Yesterday, I walked in 86 degree heat and today it was 63 and the sun came out while I was walking but it stayed cool. 23 degrees is a big difference.

Swollen and tingling

That was my hands just before I called my son to bring me a bottle of Gatorade after about 3/4 of my walk. I could feel my hands swelling and I was getting dry quickly. Trying to keep my usual pace with an 86 degree temperature outside and the hot sun in full view. I used up my only bottle of water just before I called him. I knew I wouldn't make it home without something. I had that happen over the summer last year and I was just over halfway done with my walk then. Luckily, the community pool was right across the street and I walked into the ladies room and hopped in the shower - clothes on...socks and shoes off. I filled my 2 bottles of water, (yes, I had drank 2 by that time) asked for a packet of salt and walked home without any further incident. It was well over 90 degrees that day. I keep thinking I will be fine but you never know with the heat. I vow to take 2 bottles from now on and I am looking into getting a Camelbak as it holds more and I wouldn't have to carry the bottles...you use a tube clipped to your clothes. I'm glad it was the weekend and someone was home to help me out. KJ always helps out.

Today was a much better day for me. I was able to get up at 6 am with KJ and stay up for a productive day. I got some artwork finished and walked a great time with a kick in my step. To finish off the evening, I watched a powerful lecture by a man dying of cancer who is more alive than many people that I know. I'm sure he has pain constantly but the wisdom and joy in living he shares and the way he embraces the life he still has is so inspiring. He has already beaten the odds of how much time he has left and I would venture to say that there is still some more to go. He sends a powerful message if you are willing to take it in...

This was a long walk. No more mileage just very long. It was hotter than it has been. I am not feeling great and even though it was faster than yesterday, it just seemed longer. *sigh*
.
On a happy note, or the half full glass...It was my 50th walk of this year. Woo-Hoo!

That was on the treadmill last night. It rained all weekend and I finally got to walk but I had to do it in the house...bummer! I like getting out to walk.

Yes, I skipped 6 days to walk. Each day it started looking pretty gloomy when I was ready to walk plus it was lightning. That's one thing about Florida that I won't walk because of. I'm not taking any chances with getting struck. I did pressure wash the driveway for 2 days so I was getting some exercise. My arms sure felt it last night.
.
My weight has risen just a bit. I can feel some bloating, as well. I'm having sweats at night and certain "hormonal' surges so I'm trying to just live with it and try to get my exercising in somehow even if I don't feel up to it.

A recap of the first quarter...

.
As of March, My goal of 1,000 miles walked was surpassed by 27 miles! At this momentum, I will have and extra hundred or so miles by the end of the year.
.
I have lost 13 lbs since the beginning of the year, also. And a total of 35 lbs since last fall.
.

COOL!
