Today is the last day of the month so I spent time reflecting on how well I have done. All that I have accomplished has made me stronger and more insightful of the future. My purpose is defining daily and I am grateful for the ability, determination and dedication to complete most of the first month's goals as well as to look forward to the second month and the achievements to keep me on a pace to better health in all aspects...physically, mentally and spiritually.

When I go out for my walks, I have a specific "attire" that I put on. It consists of a t-shirt and sports bra, bike shorts or capris, wicking socks, a headband, walking shoes and a towel. I don't put it on at the beginning of the day, I put it on just prior to walking out the door for my walk. The reason, for me, is to know that this is a ritual where I spend my time before walking as a preparation. Putting on my walking clothes is a part of this, as well as checking my cell phone for battery power (it is also my music), getting a bottle of water or gatorade and putting on some sunblocker lip balm. It makes you feel as if the walk is a scheduled activity. Like when you go to a gym. You put on gym clothes to start your workout and then remove them when you are done. The time that you put them on is an awareness of the impending activity that you have mentally set aside for yourself. The preparation allows me to focus on the reasons why I am doing this. I think about the exercise that my body will get, physically and mentally. There is also the spiritual side that plays into it. I think about any things that are going on in my life and how I can work those out in my head as I walk and breathe. It works well for me. Positive thoughts seem to come into my head as I begin. I pray for others not able to walk for whatever reason and appreciate all that allows me to be able to do so. This mental and spiritual "attire" is as important as the t-shirt and shorts I have put on. And I know I have made a conscious effort to keep fulfilling my goal of walking 4 days per week. If I just throw my walking clothes on at the beginning of the day and "hope" I can make time to get out and walk, chances are, I won't. I have prioritized my life better and walking has become the main priority. With that said, I think I am wearing success!

Yes, it was a slower pace today. My hips aren't cooperating with me very much but I still have to keep trying. I did 2 hours of gardening after my walk. I got a lot done today. I also made two dinners - spaghetti and roast beef. Plenty of spag sauce left to freeze and a full roast beef dinner to eat tomorrow night.I wish I was this productive everyday! Oh, did I mention that I voted?

Win some, Lose some...

.
FBS - 102
.
Monday weight - 162.5 lbs.
.
Okay, so I didn't "win some" with my blood sugar as it was higher by more than 20 points from the day before! Everytime I eat potato along with bread, it goes up some. But, alas, 102 isn't bad compared to what is was before I started getting serious about my health. So, I am winning, really.
.
As far as the weight "lose some", I can't figure that one out either. I gained a half pound then another 2 lbs in the last two weeks. Now, I am down 8 lbs from last week but a net of 5.5 lbs from three weeks ago. I am the biggest loser!!!
.
I will resume my walking tomorrow. I decided to take a well deserved day off to keep my hips and legs from falling off (which it feels like they might do from time to time!)

What would you do?

It just occurred to me that my time might be off anywhere from 15-30 seconds because of all the streets I cross and the drivers that won't let me go on. Not usually over the weekend but during the week, I have to cross 12 intersections or entrances with a heavy amount of traffic driving by. One of which can be aggitatingly busy!!! I need to keep better track of how many seconds lapse as it can cut into my time by half a minute or more. Most people won't let me go by. They are in a hurry to get to their destination and I am not the stronger of the two in transit. So, I motion people by almost always. Sometimes, though, I get someone who must hit the sidewalks themselves and understand the pace that a walker/jogger/runner likes to keep for stride and continuity purposes. They will stop completely and wave their hand out the window for me to go on. I always wave to them and silently say thank you so they can read my lips.
.
What do you do when you are driving and come upon a pedestrian? If you don't have someone close on your tail, let them go. It's good Kharma and they will appreciate it. Especially if they are intent on their exercising.
