Diabetes Sucks!!!

I don't like it! I don't want it! But I've got it! And once you have it, you always have it. But I can do something about it and that is what this blog is about. My journey to better health and wellness. Yes, for the rest of my life!!!

It's a great day in Oviedo...

1:10:20 - 200 sit ups

Another record time. I wasn't really trying to beat any time just keep a good pace. No pain and my breathing was really even. I felt great, too. The weather helps. It has been in the low 60's today so the cool, dry air made it better to breathe in. I'm liking this exercise stuff!!!

Who knew?

Who knew I'd be able to hit 1:10 twice this week?!!! And without any pain today, too!!! Fast times. 14 minute miles - I'm psyched! All in preparation for the Relay. Now, I have to slow down a bit and add some mileage each day. I hope to walk about 14 miles in a day, the week before the Relay. I know I can handle it.
.
I skipped a walk on Wed. just in case you didn't notice!

Hitting the Pavement

I had a wonderful deep tissue massage today. Even though it was a bit painful at times, it was momentary and I feel refreshed now. My walk was good but I did notice that I was a bit sore. I would have skipped the walk for today but I am gearing up for my big 18 hours. I will have to increase my mileage over the next two weeks to prepare. No time challenges, just walk a longer distance. Plus, I have my next massage scheduled already for the Tuesday after the Relay. It will be well-needed. I will have some extra miles in for March. 31 days plus, I think I will do about 50 miles over the course of the two days!!! I'm looking forward to it. I hope I will prepare enough. Plus, with KJ there, I will have a messenger if i need something from the house! One perk of living close to the HS.

Okay, I gave you the bad news first!!! And the good news is...after eating a bowl of hot oatmeal and two cups of coffee, I "relieved" my self of 3 lbs!!! Yes, I weighed 162 lbs this afternoon. All due to a "fat weekend" which is more than just a Fat Tuesday!!! I ate, let say, very well all weekend. Plus, I took two days off of walking to finish up the boxes I was organizing and attended a condo warming party, complete with carbs galore. Ahhh, truffles will get you every time. And if you saw the fasting blood sugar above, well, that was in part, due to the weekend's rest from exercise but mostly all the carbs, especially the pulled pork plate I ate at Sonny's last night. *sigh* SO, if you had any doubt that I was perfect, you were absolutely right......I'm not! I'm human and I'm sticking to it.

.
The other good news is that after I walked this afternoon, I took my blood sugar and it came down to 102. Today, I am back to my healthful eating. Break over. It is a never ending battle but one that I choose not to give up the fight against. However, I refuse to also give up enjoying life, once in a while.
.
So, the really good news is that I joined the Relay for Life which will take place the third weekend in March. It is an 18 hour walk around the track of the high school right here behind the house. My goal is to walk the entire 18 hours with a short 5-10 minute break each hour for necessities. I won't be walking my usual pace...just walking. I heard that another guy walked the entire 18 hours last year. There are about 40 teams right now and at least one person from each team is asked to be on the track during the entire 18 hours. Here is my page. And due to my excitement over joining the group to walk, I did my best walking time ever!!!
